Review of The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?
To start this off my review is most likely going to be different from most seeing how I actually enjoyed this anime quite a bit. Its an anime that doesn't need a bunch of thought process and can be just watched and enjoyed. May have small spoilers** Story: 7.5/10 - the anime starts off in a pretty basic isekai format with the MC falling asleep while waiting for the rice to finish cooking then opens his eyes only to find himself in a new world as a small child. Then that's were the anime starts putting in their own elements to make their own version. Startingwith family politics and then the adventures the characters go on it starts becoming a good anime.
Art: 7/10 - the art and animation are good for the most part, there were a few scenes with CGI but they were well done and in a way that it didnt break up the scene like some CGI does when just thrown in to save money or because time has run out and something need to be produced. The backgrounds and way the artists took care of the particular scene was well thought out also and helped the CGI not draw the viewers eyes away from action. The magic system didn't seem too complex and the animation for the spells wasn't anything special, although the action sequences were well done and looked crisp.
Sound: 7/10 - the sound was good, the OP & ED were not bad. The OP had like a rock and roll quiere vibe with all the guitars and drums, not gunna lie tho I skipped them most of the time but the times I did listen I did enjoy them. The SFX was good too, the monsters sounded ferocious and action sounds were fairly real sounding.
Characters: 8/10 - the characters were cool, I liked their design and the clothing design was good also, they had the characters in different costumes a few times and a lot of anime doesn't do that which I would like to see more anime give their characters an actual wardrobe and not just give us the same school uniform or set or armor for the character to wear all season. The monsters had good designs and had a good variety of different creatures. The voice acting for the English dubbed was really good in my opinion and made this anime better.
Enjoyment: 8/10 - I really enjoyed this anime the 1st time I watched it and I still enjoyed it the 5th time I watched it. Next time I'll check out the original with English subtitles and compare the two. I enjoy how it doesn't really have a complex magic system and it has a story that's easy to follow and easy to enjoy if you like isekai anime or anime with characters that are likeable.
Overall: 7.8/10 - it's a good anime that doesn't try to change the genre or make its own genre, it has its funny moments and it's action moments and a few moments that are a little more serious that help keep this anime from getting old too fast. I still smile and laugh at moments in this anime and I've seen it atleast 5 times and im sure if most of you looked at my watched anime list you would say that this is the only type of anime I watch but I only started watching anime like 16 months ago and how I started was through all the harem ecchi anime and I have an open mind when it comes to anime and life in general so that's why my list leans towards those genres but slowly I'm getting to the more emotional and crazy anime. Anyways this kinda turned into a rant and screw it I'm not deleting it lol. So this anime is a decent anime to watch and if you have an open mind and can respect the effort put into any anime then I'm positive you will not be disappointed at the end of this anime.
