Review of The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?
This is about Shingo Ichinomiya, an employee at a trading company. One day he woke up and found himself occupying the body of Wendelin a six year old boy, and the 8th child of a noble family who were destitute in the fantasy world. Good Start, I Guess? I thought this anime adaptation would feel like the Isekai Cheat Magician series in the first episode and I was wrong. I have to admit that I first started watching Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou! because of one main reasons: Louise Jolande Aurelia Overweg. Even though I haven't read the original light novel or adapted the comic, aside from the character design, I'm a little interested in the series because of the interesting title.
At the beginning of the story we have been welcomed by an adult picture of the main character, then explained again from his past. Maybe it was only in the past that made me a little confused, because the reason why he got to Isekai was a little confusing. But apart from that, I am more interested because in this anime the main character is not given all his strengths directly, but rather he discovers and searches for himself why and what he can do. The search process is quite interesting and is delivered with a relaxed story, especially in the introduction of the nobles.
But the thing that I am not "comfortable" in this anime is the 3DCG. When I saw a clip from the opening scene of this anime, I saw that the 3DCG animation from the animation didn't seem to be quite "good". Apart from all that, this premiere episode is quite interesting to me, although it hasn't been given a conflict, but the anime Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai Deshou was able to provide the process of the main character's struggle in overcoming obstacles he will face in his life.
This is just a guess or bad prejudice from the first episode. The impression of "wow" that appears in the first episode does have a good impact on the comfort of watching and foster curiosity about the series that should run more than 12 episodes. But the decline in quality in the third episode could indeed backfire for his production team. Since this anime adaptation is also a debut for Miura Tatsuo as the director and Miyamoto Takeshi as the composer of the series, I have to lower expectations as low as possible. Probably lower than the series "Isekai Cheat Magician".
I feel this anime is suitable for those of you who are looking for anime Isekai but with a focus on stories about nobility. From the initial description of this inaugural episode, I think that in the future the topic that will often be touched upon might be regarding nobles or castes in their world.
