This first season has surprised me in a very nostalgic way. Liko is a kid very much how Ash was at the start of their series but her approach to wanting to understand how Pokemon feel is more prominent. Being a good trainer is now assumed and we do get training episodes as well. Pokemon lovers you will love this. Seeing the dynamic between all the cast and each of them getting some backstory and an arc (especially the Captain Pikachu ep) really pulls the show together while the main plot forms in front of you and them. At the end we now have aclear goal and the strong personalities of the cast have been laid bare, we can now move into more adventures and bigger stakes.
Framing it around the grandmother was a nice touch because kid’s very much look up to their older family as role models and beacons of knowledge. If you like Pokemon, you will LOVE this show. There are even whole Pokemon only sections, something the show started falling off with as we went on!
