About 1/3 of this manga has the same problems as Lone Wolf & Cub (by the same author): it shows a completely episodic work where each chapter is totally independent (so there is almost no plot development and you can even read them in any order you want...), and the protagonist is an impassive assassin who never shows her emotions (which quickly becomes boring to read). However, in this case the author mixes those chapters with others that feel like a real story, talking about the protagonist's past or advancing the general plot and connecting with other chapters, which makes this manga far more engaging. Furthermore, ifyou read beyond the "introductory" part, the protagonist begins to show her emotions at some points, revealing her hidden anguish and showing genuine care for other people: this makes the character far more relatable and interesting to read.

The only downside is that the protagonist sometimes seems too perfect: not only is she beautiful and an absolute master of all kinds of combat arts and gymnastics, but she is also very clever, an extraordinary artist, a disguise expert, very skilled at seducing others (men or women), a gifted pickpocket... at some point, her increasing number of talents makes the story feel less "realistic" / believable.

As a side note, this manga deals with sexuality in a fairly open way (in fact, it sometimes hints at some pretty weird fetishes...), which is surprising considering it was published in 1972 in Japan.
