Sorcerous Stabber Orphen · review
This anime is aimed squarely at boys in the throes of chunibyo. I suppose the 1998 original would have been a trailblazer with such a target, but now, with all the anime that have made fun of chunibyo over the years, this remake feels like a joke. HOWEVER, I will say that it's still enjoyable and valuable in that Orphen is still a hero's hero. Even if the plot gets cheesy and his outfit and pseudonym are lame, I don't ever lose any respect for Orphen as a hero. He does the right things for the right reasons and is always someone to look up to. IfI had a son, I'd be okay with him watching this show. It would at least instill an upright sense of heroism in him, one that fits with archetypes thousands of years old. I would then hope that my son quickly outgrows the embarassing chunibyo affectations quickly, keeping the moral lessons Orphen teaches.
