I read some opinions about the anime series Samurai Champloo, and saw that a lot of people had already given their thoughts. So I’m writing this review because It can be a reflection to help me understand my feelings about the show. I can say, that the thing I enjoy about Samurai Champloo is that it is fashionable and the music fits very well. Watanabe, the director has selected hip-hop music well enough to be appreciated even by those who are not fans of this kind of music. I also enjoy how the show combines Edo period of Japan, with hip-hop and punk culture, an interestingcombination. The animation is of good quality with bright colors and detailed backgrounds, the fight scenes are pretty interesting.

Overall the story is episodic, but there is an overall plot that becomes more significant near the end. However, the show is mostly focused on the characters. Fuu, Mugen and Jin are the three main characters in the series – they may appear to be rather stereotypical at first glance; however that changes as you watch the series develop which is an equally subtle and interesting move. The course of their life in pairs, while they search for a samurai smelling sunflowers, illustrates the development and improvement of their relationships. The relationship between Fuu and Jin, Mugen and Jin, and Fuu and Mugen is interesting.

The relationship between the trio as they travel together becomes more meaningful and purposeful. The gradual transformation of their relationship is hopeful and satisfactory – the show leaves its spectators with a good view on life.
