It's really nice to see new stories break out like this and touch so many hearts that it literally breaks the charts, but it's confusing as hell when you return after many months to this series that broke to the very top of the MAL rankings and feel...nothing. Or at least not as much as many others have. Let me get this out of the way first, I do not like the main trio. Frieren, fine but maybe shouldn't be the protagonist at all. Fern, annoying. Stark, boring. I do like their more chill dynamic compared to isekai or other fantasy anime friend groups that tendto usually be very energetic and chaotic. (Examples: Inuyasha, Konosuba, Gokudou-kun, etc.) but oh my god so many episodes really are just snorefests because I don't care about the characters or their personal issues all that much, the comedic timing also isn't very great.

I like the world, I like the art, I even like the action which initially bored me during my very first watch but found myself refreshed by after so many episodes of mind numbingly dull dialogue that I didn't find very funny, engaging or charming.

Now, what do I mean by finding Frieren shouldn't be the protagonist? She's just not very interesting, we learn her baggage from the start and slowly find out trickles of more baggage, and the show is relient on you to care about all that and Frieren's regrets, but I just did not give a shit. I literally just got to meet this character and so far she has been an anti-social recluse who fucked up hard and now has to live with the consequence of being alone forever. (or at least so she thought) I did not like a character like this, and so for many episodes I flat out didn't even like Frieren outside of her character design.

The show relies on you wanting Frieren to be happy and make meaningful connections...I don't give a shit wheter she finds happiness or not???

I still want to like the anime because it is not bad, in fact there was even one time a tear managed to form in my eye while watching, it is just genuinely so fucking boring at too many times and relies on you feeling big emotions from moments that aren't all that impactful to someone who cannot relate or just doesn't really give a crap yet.
