SPOLIER WARNING: This OVA was such a major disappointment. While the series in general isn't perfect, I personally enjoyed down to the bone. I love how this anime touched upon dark sensitive topics and expressed them in artistic ways. When I heard Wonder Egg was getting an OVA, I was optimistic that it would either answer some questions or promote a second season since I found it hard to believe that one extra episode would add any closure. After watching the OVA, I was more disappointed than a kid who got coal for Christmas. I was more traumatized than a war veteran by how shockingly horribleit was. In this review, I'm going to go over the highlights of what made this OVA hotter than volcanic horse poo.

30 min recap: In general, I passionately despise recap episodes as it doesn't contribute anything to the story. It is an insult, in the sense that it treats viewers like they have short attention spans who forget things easily. The first time they did this, I let it slide since I was enjoying it. But the fact that they had the audacity to do it again, is truly shameless beyond words. To make things worse, it takes up 2/3 of the episode which already killed my enjoyment, but it doesn't there.

Unanswered questions: The only good thing this OVA did was expand the world build of what happens to the victims who are revived (They lose their memory). Besides that, this OVA leaves more questions than answers. It introduces more story elements that are never fully explored. For example, we get a sense of why Koito unalived herself, but we still don't fully understand her true motives. What did Koito do at her old school that made her previous teacher unalive himself? Why did the friendly and supportive Koito we know, threaten Sawaki to jump off with her? We learn this new side to Koito, but it is never answered. Another example, is why Neiru decided to abandon her friends to become a human. During her dream sequence, she says she was going to blow the enemy's mind and that she wants to see her friends, but after Frill tells her that she can become human, Neiru is easily persuaded like a kid in a candy store. This just randomly happens and we're never told why she accepted Frill's offer over her friends. Having these answered would've made the anime more enjoyable, but because it happens out of nowhere, it just feels awkward that the show would even introduce these things in the first place. Just like everyone else, I was blue balled with none of my questions answered.

Laziness: Besides the 30 minute recap hogging 2/3 of the OVA, there are two scenes that shows how lazy this OVA was made. The first one being the rain scene. The first time watching the OVA, I didn't realized Ai was having a conversation with Neiru's sister in the lobby. I was confused since the conversation that was happening didn't match the setting. Instead of animating the conversation in the proper setting, they decided to go with a poorly drawn Ai running in the rain for almost the whole conversation which was hilarious, but it doesn't end there. When Tanabe shows Neiru's dream to Ai and Rika, we don't get to see Neiru's interaction with the enemies. Instead, we're just shown still images of the characters being zoomed in on. I'm lead to believe that the animators were either on crunch time, or simply too lazy to draw those sequences properly.

Rushed ending: Near the end when Neiru finally tries to get in contact with Ai. Despite Ai, constantly trying to contact her, she ends up throwing her phone out then immediately regrets. None of that makes any logically sense. But it gets worse, Ai randomly transfers to a new school and we're never told why. Was it to avoid her friends associated with the Wonder Eggs? Was it because Koito didn't remember her? The OVA never explains. All we're given is that she had no reason to go to her old school. Then after some time lapse, she suddenly has the urge to go hatching wonder eggs again. But it makes no sense because Ai has already saved Koito, so who is she fighting for now? This all happens within the span of 4 minutes which shows how rushed it was.

Verdict: Even if we do get a 2nd season. I've lost all my optimism after watching that horrible OVA. I'll still watch it, but I will not have any faith on its success. I wish I can pretend this OVA never existed, but I enjoyed the first 12 episodes so much that seeing this was traumatizingly bad. 1/10. I'd give it a 0/10, but MAL doesn't have that. Overall, DO NOT WATCH THIS OVA!
