Review of A Whisker Away
I dont normally write reviews, but I will for the sake of anime and movies that i watch during the same year they come out. **Disclaimer -- I have a soft spot for romance/comedy based anime so I may/may not be a bit bias in my review** Story - 7/10 They dump a lot in the beginning on you, however, they still keep everything simple so you are able to maintain the pacing and understand the overall concept of the plot. Art & Sound- 8/10 Cute, appealing, and vibrant is how I would describe the art style. The art style highly matches the mood of both the characters andthe plot. The sound was fairly generic, but it worked very well. I even stayed and listened to the entirety of the ED because it was quite peaceful.
Characters - 7/10
For a somewhat short movie, it's hard to fully grasp and engage with the characters, but early on, you do get to see exactly what kind of people they are, primarily that of Saski and Hinode. You also get to see how these characters change throughout the story, and it doesnt feel rushed or out of place.
Enjoyment - 8/10
One of the few anime movies I have recently seen that I actually paid attention too throughout the entirety of the viewing. I was engaged with every character and the what they were going through to reach their goals, as well as paying attention to the scenery and music.
Overall/Recommendations: 7.5/10
If you are enjoy cats, light romance and comedy, and intriguing art style, i would highly recommend Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu. I am super picky when it comes to anime movies, and this one does a great job of reeling me in super early. Also, I swapped between sub/dub and must say, both versions had great VA, so either should fit your taste, depending on how you are watching. I think it has potential of re-watch value, and depending if I did watch it again, would levy if i raise it to an 8 or lower it to a 7.
