The idea of preserving extinct animals on a remote island is a really cool concept, and you can have great potential in a movie with this kind of premise. Unfortunately, so far the all-original Mizuta-era Doraemon films have put too much into their movies that it ruins the potential. The biggest problem with this movie is that "Dakke" really didn't need to be in the movie, even though he was supposed to be the lead guest character. He never really gets his own moment to shine that is important to the movie, and I struggled to understand why they put him in the moviein the first place. There was also a lot of potential (won't go into details because of spoilers) to tie in the father-son relationship between Nobita and his dad with "Dakke" and really make that part of the movie shine but it all felt like an afterthought instead. We also don't get to see Shizuka get any moments to shine. Suneo does get a cool heroic moment, and that scene was really well put together to elevate the stakes of the main conflict.

The guest characters are also incredibly confusing. The premise of this show is that there is a special island where extinct animals are preserved. But for some reason, there is a human tribe living there. They don't seem to make contact with Dr. Kelly, the scientist from the future who oversees this island, but at the same time the tribe also seems to acknowledge her existence? None of this ends up being explained whatsoever, and I feel like pertinent information was omitted from the movie. Dakke also claims to have seen the "golden beetle" even though there was no such scene of that happening in the movie.

The main antagonist was a really simple villain, and that made the movie a little easier to understand. It does seem he beats around the bush for the sake of plot development, but that's insignificant compared to the other problems aforementioned. There were a lot of other small details that didn't seem to make sense, but they all pale in comparison to the main problems about the guest characters and the lost potential of the premise. Overall an extremely weak film that doesn't answer a lot of questions that viewers will likely ask.
