Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! · review
This shit is hardcore, man. You think you understand Pokemon? Think again, motherfucker. Yes, sometimes the humor feels a bit forced and can fall flat. Yes, it can be childish at times. Yes, the main character is a lot like Jaden Yuki. But really, who cares? This shit is amazing. Team Galactic gets a sinister as fuck portrayal in this manga and they feel like a threat. Don't believe me? Try volumes 4 and 5. Grimdark as fuck. It's not your typical story where the bad guys just try to defeat the MC's Pokemon so he'll leave them alone. Fuck that, these guys want him dead. But yeah, back to the quality. The art's pretty damn good. The artist clearly has his own style and that's part of what makes this manga so great. You know, aside from the kickass story and characters.
Speaking of story, this shit's awesome. It flows really well and it can even be suspenseful. That's right, suspenseful. It's a fucking Pokemon manga, but I was still left wondering what would happen at times. Since when does Pokemon leave you guessing?
And them characters. You gotta love the darling Mitsumi. The writer really delves into her personality. Typical Pokemon heroine? Ha, fuck that. She's got a lot to her, but you gotta read it to find out. Hareta's a pretty cool MC, but he's more cliche than Mitsumi. Still, he gets credit for some of the badass stunts he pulls. Jun's also pretty cool. He doesn't get as much attention as Mitsumi and Hareta, but he does have his fair share of appearances. Not much is done with his character, but it's cool because he's got good taste in women.
Seriously, go read this manga right now. It's fucking great. 8/10. Volumes 4 and 5 are a 9. The final volume is really good too. That one gets an 8.5.
