Review of Land of the Lustrous
Gonna write a short one of how I felt. Houseki no Kuni was definitely a different type of anime that was well done and played to its 3D-animation strengths. Unlike most of Japanese 3D animation, these guys seemed to understand how to use it to its full potential, and a story about gem warriors fighting was the perfect topic that only 3D could pull off. The fight scenes in this is one of the best I have ever seen, how they create atmosphere, use of camera angles, and the use of animation was amazing. The characters themselves were pretty average, nothing out of the world (innocentmain char, and variety of supports + a head figure)
Not only was the animation gorgeous, the sound in this really amplified my experienced. All BGM fit the scene and was not a distraction, rather an enjoyment.
I also appreciated how it used each gems characteristics to create personalities for the characters. I wish they used more common minerals/gems with more facts, but it was interesting for me being a chem eng major.
Overall, I think if you like any action film, this show is definitely a watch. Give it like 2 episodes. It doesn't start slow, but it took me about 2 episodes to get used to its pacing and animation style.
