Review of Mob Psycho 100 II
I’m the protagonist of my own life. What I liked about this second season was how much Mob grew emotionally. As he encountered more obstacles, he learned about what he needed in his life, the necessity of forming bonds, and how people could change. Some of these themes were not entirely new. However, since I was very invested in Mob’s journey, I saw how important these themes were to him. One of the best episodes in the show was when he encountered an evil spirit that resided within a child. This episode was the darkest and most personal one in the entire show, and Iwas enthralled at how much Mob was tested. Also, this episode became the crucial turning point for Mob.
The animation was again superb. There were more fights with different psychic powers. The end fight was amazing to watch, although it felt a little bit like the end fight on One Punch Man season 1.
Another important character who was closed to Mob got what he deserved. This episode was also personal and dark, and this person was tested heavily. However, the resolution was sweet and enforced the bonds between Mob and this character.
I mentioned that two episodes in this season were dark, but there was another moment that could be even darker. This could have potentially tested Mob in another whole new level, but the show chose the easy way out, and it disappointed me a bit.
As for problems, since the show became more complexed, some side characters and plots became unnecessary. There was one episode where Mob exorcised some folktale spirit that that fell flat. There was another great character that appeared earlier and returned later, but didn’t get enough runtime to have more impact.
Overall, I loved that the show became strongly personal for our main shy boy, but there were more problems in this season. 9/10
