Review of ReLIFE
I had heard of this anime before, but when I first looked at the premise and the art, I wasn't too sure if I was going to like this show very much. In retrospect, I think it's better that I waited about a year after graduating from high school, or I don't think I'd have appreciated this anime quite as much. [Story] => 8 It was nice to see that the main character wasn't one of those kinds of otaku NEETS often portrayed in anime, but that he was a person with social skills who genuinely wanted to help his classmates around him. Therewere some cliches found in other high school animes, but I appreciated that unlike other shows where the conflict gets dragged on for 3-4 episodes, there were many conflicts that were resolved a lot faster in more mature ways that thought.
I guess that's to be expected since with the inclusion of adults characters amongst the cast, there were several voices of reason that knew how to go about conflicts between some of the characters.
[Art]
I thought that the art wasn't too bad in a kind of generic sort of way. Some of the artistic effects and chibis used at specific times in the series did end up making some of the jokes even funnier.
[Sound]
I thought that the voice actors did an alright job. I liked the voice actor who voiced Hishiro Chizuru because she was able to show the small changes in the way that Chizuru has tried to grow and become more friendly with other people.
This anime's ending was interesting because the song changes every episode. And oddly enough, almost every ending song fits the mood of the present episode quite well.
[Characters]
I think the characters were some of the strongest points of this anime. A lot of the characters were likable in their own ways, and I felt like I actually cared about them, hoping that they would be able to get over their conflicts with each other and be friends.
One thing to commend is the fact that the main character does not take advantage of the youth pill and the ReLife experiment to not take advantage of the high school girls that he goes to school with. I appreciated his mature demeanor, even the way that he ended up acting like an old man around his friends.
While I know there are some who might consider certain characters who are annoying in this anime because most of the problems are related to them, I think that this aspect is quite realistic. When I was in high school, there were some individuals in my school who were often linked to most of the drama. I'm not saying that they were always responsible for the drama that surrounded them; it's just that they often found themselves in it.
Likewise, some of the ways that these teenagers reacted to some of their issues may seem a bit exaggerated, but that's also how teenagers can be at times, and I appreciated the realism.
[Enjoyment] => 8
While most of the subplots were resolved, the anime does end in an open way after some revelations, but I've heard that ReLife will get a season 2 with four more episodes to conclude the story, so I'm looking forward to that.
Overall: 7
