Review of Steins;Gate 0

Steins; Gate 0 is an overall better series than the OG Steins; Gate. There I said it. My views on some of the biggest anime series of all time tend to fall on the opposite side of most. With things like Death Note and HxH I just flat out think they are overrated messes. However, I dont think Steins; Gate is bad, I just think the "alternative sequel/2nd season" is a better show. After watching Steins; Gate a few months back, I finished it feeling pretty much nothing. The show had a good cast and an amazing plot concept... but it was just missing components thata great show needs. The show had just two major issues in my eyes:

1. The ending was predictable, and the 2nd half of the show leading up to it was as well + dull
2. The romantic relationship between the two main characters was forced and unrealistic (not to mention the characters in the first season are highly irritating)

Steins; Gate Zero fixes both of my concerns with the OG series... and adds so much that Steins; Gate lacked. Makise and Okabe are amazing in this. Makise Kurisu, even though only as an AI, is a staple to the show. And Okabe, man is his character development out of this world. I always wondered why his character had so many favorites on MAL, but after seeing SG0 I completely get it. He is solidified as one of the GOATS.

Because Steins;Gate Zero is an alternate, you never know what is going to happen. The drama in the last half of the show feels genuine, like you truly dont know whats going on. Theres a thrill aspect to the episodes that you never felt before. The characters feel even more connected as time changes, and the different timelines we experience add so much to the enjoyment of the show. I mean...who expected that sequence of events where he goes into the future. Amazing!

Steins; Gate is a good show. One of the best ever??? Not so much. Its a pretty decent show that is uplifted by its insanely unique plot. Steins; Gate Zero expands on the plot, as well as the amazing cast of characters, and adds a genre of thrill and excitement that is lacking from the OG series. Many people may think the original ending is perfect because of how happy it is, but the 23 episode knock off series in SG0 is well worth the time.
