The Tiger Won't Eat the Dragon Yet · review
Tora wa Ryuu wo Mada Tabenai (The Tiger Won't Eat the Dragon Yet), is a rather unique story looking into the crueler world of the animal kingdom, mainly on the relationships between predator and prey, while still having fantasy elements (human transformations and dragons). The title sums up the start of the story pretty well, the main character is a dragon called Hekidou, who is caught by Hakurei, a white tiger who plans to eat him because there is a legend that eating a Dragon's heart would make you immortal. Hakurei chooses to spare him after he transforms into a young human form. The relationship betweenHekidou and Hakurei is satisfying to watch, as their personalities clash in a way that feels natural and not obnoxious. The way that these two MCs interact is what makes the story so good, as most of the side characters aren't nearly as interesting until later on in terms of personality or motivations, mostly just them wanting to eat or have kids, as animals in nature would do.
Reading characters raise young of a species different to their own is heartwarming to read, but this series isn't afraid to also remind you of the harsh reality that is the food chain. Overall, this was a pleasant surprise and good read.
