Review of Monster
Does the fact that its slow paced mean its bad? (No spoilers) I highly recommend you watch this show if you like shows with lots of internal meaning, psychological suspense, and philosophical meaning. Each episode of monster itself seems to be very basic at first until you continue and realize the bigger picture that it is trying to convey. It took me a while to realize but the slow pacing is what makes monster so great. The small amounts of development an episode brings to each individual character is more important than you will realize. It is not a normal series that builds until afinal scene that is filled with action, but once finished you will realize the importance of each individual episode and how they beautifully tie together. Both the protagonist and antagonists' motives and reasoning behind their character isn't realized in one episode but is slowly built upon the one before. The parallel between the two brings a dynamic like never seen before. Not just a simple good vs evil. But much more behind it. If you finish the show and believe that antagonist was illustrated in a way because of one occurrence, you are wrong. It's the accumulation of everything and that's why I was thankful for the slow pacing at the end.
Monster throws many side characters in the mix that toggle with the protagonists' feelings and overall develop him as a character. From initially starting off as a charming doctor to what he became is mind boggling. Can evil corrupt a good person? Can one's morals be changed? If so how fast and what how convincing does it need to be? This is again why monster is slow paced. The protagonists' morals are questioned throuhgout the series and the moral dilemmas he faced each build one after another. Does he turn out good? Does he turn out evil? Is he still discovering what type of person he truly is?
