Review of Castle in the Sky

Today I finished Castle in the Sky as my first ever Studio Ghibli movie. As expected from what I've heard about the studio's prestige, this was a charming movie in terms of having beautiful animation and art. I was amazed at the beauty of Laputa, the movie's steampunk setting of airships and coal mines, and the robots' destructive scenes. But I was not a fan of the story, and of the characters to a lesser extent. In that regard the movie felt underdeveloped, but it compensated with an adventurous atmosphere I can't help but love. I could tell this was Studio Ghibli's first movie, andI hope their stories improve as I progress through its catalogue.
