Review of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Loved it! Set in an early medieval-style world with magic, Sousou no Frieren is not a typical shonen adventure action anime. Not that this anime doesn't have these elements. However, this anime also has a 'wholesome' twist. This anime is less for the suspense and more for the 'present' story and the screenplay and drama itself, which is top-notch. Madhouse Studio certainly did a really great job on the animation. Even though this is only the first season of the anime, I would still rate it above 9. Please do not jump into the anime assuming that it is going to be a typical adventure,action, or thriller like MHA or FMAB. Frieren has a different story setting, which is a little on the 'chill' side.

I would definitely recommend this anime to anyone who likes anime in general. Plus, the story is only gonna get more interesting in the later seasons ;)

Frieren is an accomplished elven mage and the main character. She once travelled with a party of heroes who defeated the Demon King. More than 80 years later, she wishes to see her past (now dead) friends again, and so she embarks on a journey to a location where she can see them again (It is a world with magic after all). It has been subtly teased many times that her journey will impact the current world, as the world itself is undergoing power shifts. The unique story setting is filled with adventures and day-to-day moments as well, which showcase the emotional and personal development of characters and deep interplay in their relationships.

Frieren, being an elf, doesn't understand emotions very well. Still, she relates her memories and current situations to understand the importance of emotions. This, combined with stories of other characters, also reflects how people regard emotions, friends, family, and love in real life.

Certainly, I don't want to give away too many details. So I will end my review with these simple words: Anyone who generally likes to watch anime will certainly like Frieren as well. Hope this helps!
