Given that many people aren’t fans of this adaptation, it’s understandable. I can't offer an opinion on that, since I haven't read the novel. However, if you take the time to appreciate the finer details, the series becomes much more enjoyable and intriguing. It can be frustrating when a beloved novel gets a poor-quality adaptation, which is why I prefer to watch the animation first—to avoid that disappointment. I've come across reviews mentioning that the pacing feels rushed, but honestly, that's pretty common for donghua adaptations. To stay fully faithful, they would need hundreds of episodes. From the perspective of someone who hasn't read the novel,I didn’t find the pacing as fast as others claim—it seemed just fine to me.

I adore Yan Wushi—he’s hilarious and clearly has deep feelings for Shen Qiao. Maybe I'm naive, but I call it love. The other characters, however, don’t get much depth; the donghua gives us just enough to see them as side characters with little complexity. That being said, the fight scenes are incredibly smooth and satisfying, and the character designs are gorgeous.

While the adaptation may not fully satisfy fans of the original novel, especially in terms of pacing and character development, it still offers a lot to enjoy if you take the time to appreciate it on its own merits. The humor, action, and beautiful character designs make it a fun experience for non-readers. Although it's not without its flaws, there's still plenty to love, particularly for those new to the story.
