Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
I would probably give this a 7.5/10 over all. The fight scenes were okay, they were cool but they weren't what kept me watching. The over reaching message was very fun to watch. The message of what it means to be human. What being, in this universe, a parasite is and if it should be allowed to exist at all. It felt slow to me at times but was strongest when talking about what it means to be human and showing the simple kindness of normal every day people. The ending of the anime felt nice and had a nice pay off. It leaves much towonder and question and I'm almost certain that's because the manga is longer but. It's a good place to end for what i'm guess was, if not still is, an ongoing manga.
Beyond the blood and gore it's a story of what it means to be human, and the answer is kindness. To be fair, there's a lot of 'misery porn' or misery just for the sake of misery it feels a bit much, but one could argue it makes the story stronger in some regards as it shows you how with support someone can continue moving foward through great hardships.
Overall,I felt the anime was slow at times but the message and themes more than made up for it. I'd give it a 7.5/10 for a final score but my enjoyment when i finished the series was absloutely an 8/10.
