Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
Overall - 9: This anime is a well paced show with amazing character development and a great soundtrack. It had me always wanting more. The action sequences were thrilling and it was an emotional rollercoaster at times. Story - 9: The story in this anime was very well paced and interesting. The events had good cohesion and the end of each episode always left me wanting more. The world building was great, and things were explained so well that when something happened it felt like it made sense rather than just being something you have to accept. My one complaint is that the show lacked a very clearsense of destination. I like that I didn't know where the story was going to go next, but I'm not entirely satisfied with the way they ended it.
Art - 8:
The art was very detailed and the animation was very impressive at times. Some of the characters were very intricate, and they did a good job at making everything look like it belonged. The creatures were disturbing, and the transformations looked fluid. I'm wasn't a huge fan of the 3d models they used for some of the background characters if only because they seemed kinda out of place, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
Sound - 10:
This is how you do a soundtrack right. Almost every song is great and a smaller soundtrack means that the audience becomes more familiar with the songs that are there.
Character - 9:
The characters in this anime felt very believable, the dad is a personal favorite of mine, especially in the beginning. The growth of Shinichi throughout the anime was very well written and now stands out in my mind as one of the best examples of character development throughout a show. It helps that the story takes place over a good length of time so the Shinichi can grow physically as well as mentally.
Enjoyment - 9:
Many times I had to remind myself I needed to go to sleep because I just wanted to keep watching this show. In total it took me a week to finish which is very quick and this means that it was something that I wanted to come back to again and again. I didn't enjoy the heavy gore, even though it was necessary to the plot.
