Review of Gangsta.

If I have to define this anime in one line , I would say , 'doesn't give enough time' and I mean at every aspect of itself. This is why despite being enjoyable to watch it is not a very memorable anime. The anime is set in fictional world Ergastulum and focuses on two main character called handymen. Story - 7 The concept itself is nothing new but I like the setting of the story in city of Ergastulum which is run by 4 major crime family. Somehow the story reminded me of bungo stray dogs but a more grittier and darker version of it ,which Ireally liked. The world despite being fictional has few realistic elements which makes it relatable. The anime premise is good and the setting of the anime is good as well but where it fails is that we never experience the depth of the world, in the end we just got to know interesting things about this story but never truly experience it. Since their is not good character development for most of the character therefore when random story elements are introduced or characters are introduced who are connected to other characters they just feel that they are out of nowhere and are hard to relate or accept .They writer didn't do a good job of setting up a lot of characters and story elements in the anime.

Character - 6

The main three characters , Nicolas, Worick, Alex are only well developed but other than that every other character is hollow. Crime family have histories which is never explored properly and the crime family heads we follow are just lack luster and some of them you wonder how they even are mafias. New characters are introduced with important roles which are never explored properly, hence their character arcs just becomes useless. It also appeared that the characters are shown to be cool mafia bosses and their lackeys which they just didn't seemed to be.

Art - 6

The art and animation are good not great but not bad either. The anime's action scene are a little choppy but again, watchable. The anime look and feel comes authentic though which supplements the story well.

Sound - 6

The music in anime was good not amazing but not bad by any means either. The music compliments scenes well for most part. Unlike lots of another animes which use music to enhance the story and action scene, fills it more emotion here the just complements the scene doesn't enhance them.

Overall I would say the anime is half baked ,it's enjoyable but their is not enough world building and character development the animation and music are not bad so it can be given a watch and the story has an authentic feel to it. If you have some time to kill or just want to watch an anime to enjoy, you will be able to dig in to it.

I do think that if the anime was given a shot for a second season it could have become into something really worth watching.

P.S. watch it in dub , dub are much better than sub. The dub gives this anime more gangster vibe than sub.
