Kyousou Giga is a lot of things at ones, some good, some bad, but overall it becomes a confusing mess. An often heartwarming one, and a usually aesthetically dazzling one, but a mess. But hey, I liked it enough to watch it in one sitting despite my nagging complaints. Right out the gates it hits you with a ton of backstory and exposition. Then it just keeps going. It never really lets up from being a whole lot of exposition, rarely do you ever get to catch your breath and just be in love with the Alice in Wonderland world (yes the show very bluntly drawsthat comparison for you) as you might want to be. I feel that they weren't confident in their world building to just explore the world they created and let it speak for itself, instead constantly either keeping you in the dark, or explaining things for too damn long with no action.

Probably the worst moments were when I had to lookup who a character was, after a time skip, because he looked exactly like his father and that wasn't made apparent- not even sure if that was deliberate or not- and near the end when there;s a sorta long dialogue scene, over a character just walking from one end of a mostly static screen to the other end. The latter was such a bizarrely out of character moment especially near the climax.
That it was out of character, however is a testament to how more often than not, this is an exciting, eye popping visual experience. That aspect mostly smoothed over the shows flaws for me.

What really kept me going though was instantly falling in love with all the characters. Some, honestly, mostly because of their designs, but at least a couple were really empathetic.

And so I was able to watch it in one night. Had I taken it in multiple sittings, honestly maybe I wouldn't have made it through. I'm tempted to say that it should have maybe been dragged out a little long, for some much needed breathing room, but that's assuming they would have been able to put in more of the good, and no more of the bad. Or hell, just made it a movie and cut out all the fluff.

tl;dr it's cute and fun but highly flawed but at least it's short
