Review of My First Girlfriend is a Gal
When I first started watching this series, I didn't gave it much attention due to the bad impression of Yame and Junichi's friends, thinking they were annoying, one being a stuck up b*tch,while the others were just generic loners. Yet I continued watching it, and I did not regret it. Firstly, because they didn't made Yame the aforementioned stuck up b*tch, secondly the series did something really special that I really enjoyed through the season: They destroyed the "horny virgin boy's" kind of myths in some episodes, and also not giving us a spineless pervert as a main character, just like oh so many otherharem-ecchi anime did.
This take on ecchi romance made me watch the series onward, buying themselves time to further develop the supporting characters personalities, on which the show does a decent job, giving each of these support characters some much needed positive characteristics thus making them bearable, after giving our fairly nice MC quite the hard time, with the flood of terrible ideas from one side, and the numerous sabotages from the other.
Mentioning Mr. MC, or rather MCs (plural), As mentioned before our male Main character named Junichi is a nice guy, even tho he admits he is a perverted virgin looser, just like his friends, and there are some cases where he does show this perversion. Even tough this does not make him unlikable.
However the show struggles with our female lead character named Yame, because she is almost nonexistent. We don't really get anything about her, and the story does not develop her relationship with Junichi. Spoilers ahead: The only kiss in the last episode.
Each episode we see our MC struggling to keep, further, on not f*ck up his romance with his loved one, but we rarely see any development caused by this.
Junichi gets more sexuality from the shows other female character of whom two of them even tried to have sexual intercourse with him.
The only thing keeping Yame and Junichi together in this show is that Yame smiles nicely in the end of each episode. "There, you can now go and f*ck yourself", I imagine what the director is thinking every time the EP stars...
Sound and animation-wise the show does decent. It doesn't suck, but its not a Kimi no Na wa. However I have to mention the terrible censorship the show has. The weird kid art is really distracting in such a way that I have to say, even though I despise fan service, I'd rather would not have them...
As a final verdict, I do not recommend it to watch. It may sound I enjoyed it, which I did, but ma of you would not bear the (censored) fan service, and some really weird events normally would not happen trough real life.
However, if you are interested to hear about the not a perverted virgin boy who found of a relationship isn't just about sex, go watch it.
