Fena: Pirate Princess

Review of Fena: Pirate Princess

I agree with some reviews that the title itself is misleading because... bruh... where's the pirates? Where's the epic water battle on ships? None. I repeat NONE! So, if you are expecting those kinds of adventurous journey with lots of suspense, forget about it. This series is not only slow, it's also quite emotional (and mundane). Secondly, where's Fena? Hahaha~ Frankly speaking, this story is not about Fena; it's her... mother and the mother's lover. Very irony but yeah. The plot literally revolves around those two, and Fena (as well as the Goblin warriors) are just leading us to probe deeper into their life. True, the journeyis supposed to be 'seeking for Eden' but the development of the main characters (Fena herself) is disappointing. She doesn't have distinct characteristics that I could quickly admire and make me eager to watch the series. Character development, don't expect much! Even the male lead, Yukimaru himself is not appealing. His feature is super fine with that long hair, but his development is weak! If you watch Akatsuki No Yona, you'd definitely love Haku (the main character's knight because he's lovable; not Yukimaru despite being Fena's knight).

For the first few episodes, I almost dropped the series because it resembles Akatsuki no Yona and I'm a big fan of ANY. So, if a series is too similar, it'd definitely let me down! However, things started to spice up in the fifth or sixth eps (if I'm not mistaken). The plot isn't predictable yet it's still dull. I'd say that it's peculiar. You'll constantly feel like... "Oh, wow. Okay okay, then?"

Overall, Kaizoku Oujo is still entertaining with its top-tier visuals/animation and soundtrack. Even the op and ed are captivating. However, good stories either serve us with unique/well-thought plot or unforgettable character development. This story has neither. That's all from me, thanks for reading!
