Fureru. · review
I started off wondering where the heck everything was going, but by the 40-minute mark, I was fully invested. The drama gets incredibly thick, and communication lines get crossed in unexpected ways despite the supernatural gimmick letting the boys read each other's minds. It goes almost without saying, too, that Cloverworks has also crafted some eye-catching, poignant visuals to go along with the story. The biggest conflicts in the story, however, stem from misunderstandings that don't make sense. Conversations will conveniently end (or not happen at all) to transparently raise the stakes, and that's not my jam. Later revelations end up feeling contrived, obvious, or likesomething everyone should have figured out a long time ago. Maybe that's just the nature of drama.
Overall, Fureru was plenty of fun. I thought it was a good time, if not a huge revelation for anime films in general. I'd recommend it if it seems like something you'd enjoy.
