Review of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Ngl a lot of people go around saying "Oh it's def not deserving of #1" or "There's plenty of better anime." And the more I think about it, the more ignorant those takes actually are. It's actually no surprise why frieren blew up so much. Anime has just been largely industrialized, just assembly line pumped out, largely due to the rise of Mappa it feels like the passion of anime has been lost. Freiren is just genuine, and people can feel it. You could just tell the animation team was driven, and free to express their love for their craft in this project. They weren'tconstrained on time and it shows. Yea jjk has the sickest fight scenes of all time, but you can tell that's just regurgitated bs eye candy, the animators obviously still have passion but the studio doesn't all the studio gives a shit about is pumping shit out. Studio Madhouse showed what animators can do when they aren't being pushed to the brink of suicide. The attention to detail is insane, all the shots flow so eloquently, and not just the fight scenes either, you truly feel immersed into the world. Frieren is probably the only anime aside from AOT where people can honestly say the anime is genuinely better than the manga. And the manga itself is really good too. They don't try any dumb bs experimental shit, it's just classic fantasy world that focuses on character development. Frieren didn't blow up because it's objectively the best anime of all time, it blew up because people got what the wanted in an anime, and that's love, passion and intention. You can't watch through that show and say the animators were just getting a paycheck, no they were absolutely throwing their hearts onto this canvas, and it's just a beautiful thing to experience as it happened. And yea those motherfucking fight scenes slap too. They take like 2 page fight scenes and just fucking ELEVATE THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS. Yea frieren might not be a plot powerhouse such as AOT, One Piece, Vinland Saga etc. but that doesn't matter because it is a passion powerhouse. Passion that we haven't seen the likes of since the golden era.
