Triangle Opera · review
Been a long while since I read this back when it was first released. I think the core emotions remain good. The messed up dynamics between the trio, the obsession turned attachment turned yearning... That remains enjoyable even now. The rest, however.... The use of SA and Stockholm Syndrome in this story is very painfully 2010s. And tonewise this story WAS dark back then, but right now it feels just mid. Stuck. Don't get me wrong, the narrative tries its best. The parts that worked, worked. But the details absolutely fails the test of time. The narrative wants MC to hurt, it wants the two MLs to be redeemedby the power of love, but they don't write the story 'serious' enough. Both MLs are pretty messed up individuals who'd abuse and SA and blackmail the MC and the story doesn't flesh them both enough to make this sort of vileness anything close to justified. Neither does it attempt to portray how the MC feels about all of these.
The MC becomes hollow, a walking plot device, and his choice in the end feels unearned. A pure Stockholm Syndrome without much weight to it.
