The Full-Time Wife Escapist · review
Incredibly good hidden gem of a romance manga. You'd be forgiven for overlooking it due to its less than catchy art and odd title - which turns out is not very true to its plot! This is the story of a woman who got a psychology degree and now she can't find a job. She's been couching off her parents, but they're moving back to their countryside home soon, and she's gotta sort her situation out or leave with them. She finds a comfortable part time job house cleaning for an engineer, but it doesn't make nearly enough to pay for a new lease, andtime is running out. On a whim she proposes being a live-in housewife - they get registered as married and get the tax benefits, she gets a home, and she continues to perform her cleaning duties until she can find a job - and surprisingly he accepts. What starts out as a purely business work/living arrangement turns romantic, and the story keeps expanding to other characters in other situations and walks of life. It's handled with a degree of candidness and maturity that is extremely rare to see, and it's packed with tons of great moments and conversations.
It's not really a doughey-eyed, butterflies in the stomach kind of manga. Rather, it's a manga for adults that deals with modern issues, and is executed beautifully. If this had been published physically in English I would've purchased the volumes in a heartbeat. Don't miss this gem.
