The Children Nowadays · review
This was a pleasant surprise! I was scrolling through the offerings on the Viz Media app and stumbled upon this forgotten relic. This is just a pleasant little slice-of-life romp exploring the lives of a handful of children from a single town. With it having been written in the 80s, the name is now a misnomer, as what you are really observing is "The Children 40 Years Ago". There are lots of funny moments and good gags, but for me there was just this unexplainable comfort I felt while reading. In part this is due to it's rather simplistic but appealing art style, that allowsfor a nice display of emotions and strong distinguishment between personalities and traits of the different characters. If you are in the market for a pleasant comfort-food manga, you can't go wrong with this one.
