There are many different things that make this narrative beautiful and complex, in this short review the purpose is to outline why this lovely outing has garnered a perfect 10 score. First, hovwever, I want to start off by saying that this anime is the first full show that has earned a perfect ten so far in what I've scored. That being said this will be more or less of a bare bones or brass tacks review. Without further ado let's sink our teeth into this. Characterization, one of the things this show does incredibly well is characterization. Everyone has very realistic personalities, motivations, andgoals, not to mention even the most incrementally insignificant characters are very well thought out and inspired. The story follows a cast of 4 protagonists but everyone around them has very fleshed out and realistic writing. Every character is also quite charming, each in their own unique way. The 4 main cast members all interact with eachother and the other characters in a very realistic and well thought out way. It's easy to be empathetic to any one character in this show because they are as well written as such.

Writing/pacing, the pacing in this show is what feels just right, events don't pass by too fast to digest, nor do events linger until they become awkward. The writing is done in a way that moves the story forward keeping things interesting, all while still giving the right amount of time to really chew on moments that need attention. Often times there will be moments that are really emotionally taxing, but it somehow finds a way to rope you back in, just before it becomes too much to bear, with some levity in the form of comedy, or a cute moment. This is partly a coming of age story, but it's so much more as well, it's an adventure, it's a commentary on grief, and it's a love letter to the concept of the journey being the destination.

Visual/Audio, this show has quality in spades it is both visually and auditorily very beautiful, most would assume a show that takes place in a barren wasteland would be lacking in color, however A Place Further Than the Universe has a wonderful pallet as well as smooth, and incredibly expressive animation. Part of what makes this show incredible is the beautiful and diverse soundtrack. Music needs to be able to convey all sides of the emotional spectrum and this is something the soundtrack never failed to do. It conveyed all the right feeling in every moment that it played so the audio/video experience alone makes this outing a worthwhile experience.

Overall, A Place Further Than the Universe isn't just a good looking show, it's not just a well written show, and it's not just stellar character work. A Place Further Than the Universe is the sum of its parts, nothing but top notch in all aspects, coming into this experience one might not expect the level of depth that it has, but this reviews purpose is to tell all, A Place Further Than the Universe has everything fiction needs to be, what many would consider, a masterpiece. Depth, emotion, charm, characterization, quality, and above all love. Now go witness it for yourself!
