Review of Recovery of an MMO Junkie
I just couldn't stop. I fell in love with Mori Mori as soon as I saw her dump the flowers. Her reactions are much more organic and realistic than the usual fare we have in anime. She is not a girl, she is a woman, a deeply broken and hurt woman who feels lonely and depressed. That's what moves her to find misfits amongst whom she may find some sense of belonging. Having recovered from a very deep MMO addiction, I understand her motives and can relate to them on a personal level. Having also battled depression and the urge to become a sort ofhickokimori, I know how painful it was for her to move on and find strength to meet people IRL.
The heavy theme is nicely done without losing the sense of humour. The story is not the most original, and the twist is well telegraphed from the begining, but that was not the point. Beneath all the layers, it's a rom-com of two people who have known each other forever and deeply care for each other.
It's fun, it's mature (not in terms of echhi or violence, but rather in tackling real grown up issues of real grown ups). Here's to hoping the author gets better and we can have some more of this wonderful, clean and fun story.
