Review of Suzume
This movie conflicts me, I want to love it but there are too many issues with it for me to just look past it. I do think they did a good job and this was a fun watch, absolutely beautiful as expected. They did a good job building characters and building up from them, showing that everyone is just another person living another life with their own ups and downs. Where it kind of failed for me was the overarching plot itself. I never really felt the click in the connection between the main characters, maybe due in part to one being a chair forthe majority of the movie but I never really felt it. Secondly the plot itself with the doors and the worm monster was really mediocre and got very repetitive, especially in the first act.I feel like if they were going to focus on the fantasy element as much as they did they should've given more of an explanation for what everything was and what it meant because in the end while I knew what was happening I had no reason to care for it. There are some really nice moments in this and good qualities but I feel they should've leaned more to one side or the other and it sat too plainly in the middle. I loved the music in this as well while still pretty different than the soundtracks in his other movies it held strong and I'll definitely be listening to some of them later. Overall I did enjoy this movie and I'll probably watch it again but it didn't hit my high expectations I had for it.
