Review of High School of the Dead
High School of the Dead is an anime that I recommend for teens. I say that because of the constant gore, ecchi, and profanity. High School of the Dead is fairly new, and 12 episodes. I enjoyed this anime, but some parts weren't so good. Too much fan service in my opinion. I can't say I expected any less from a zombie anime, but still. I watched it while it was still in subs, as the dubs of it are new. The voice acting is great on both parts, but the Japanese version is still my favorite. The anime revolves around teens who have survived a zombieattack. Beginning at their school, and spreading further throughout Japan and the world. Takashi, the main character, begins to the animes opening, and like most animes, there isn't a single episode without him. He although is amazing, and cool, he seems like a player. You'll find out why. Although it consists mainly of teens, Saeko manages to save the Nurse after a brave student puts himself in front of her to protect the nurse. There is also some other adult characters, but they come in later.
Unlike most anime/mangas where it takes place in ONLY Japan, this anime shows more. It shows America, for a while with the president.
Although, this anime has a weird starter as the reporters say 2 million have been taken over, they fail to realize that Japan has about 100 million people living there ALONE. So basically, it isn't as much as you think.
HOTD also has some pretty stupid people. Like in, I believe, episode 6, many people are along the bridge, but one woman's child has been bitten. She tries to save it, but, it bits her in the neck( hence a pun, kids are a pain in the neck). Plus, the police must think:
"Anyone who tries to leave will be shot! That way people will calm down!"
Seriously. It was stupid.
But back to the story. This plot line has been overused I admit, with the sex scenes and zombies. But it IS well put together and actually makes sense.I can't express how much an service there is, and I swear it can get BORDERLINE Hentai. So I don't recommend it to little kids. Plus all the violence and gore may give them nightmares.
When I finished this anime, I had a dream where my school was taken over by zombies and a few of my friends survived. I loved the dream, but it was well gory and violent.
So beware of dreams based on HOTD
I gave the characters a 6, because the characters were pretty much used up. From others animes or movie. The originality didn't show very well.
I guess I should wrap this up. So bottomline; it's a great anime despite it's many flaws, and I recommend it to teens and older. This anime was given an overall 7 by me. Enjoy this anime/manga!
