Review of Fairy Tail
This is my review for the ENTIRETY of the Fairy Tail series Fairy Tail is pretty generic, but just because it's generic doesn't mean it's not good. Weirdly enough the show is pretty memorable, which you can't say for other shows that are "better" than Fairy Tail. Unlike My Hero Academia, which felt like a very lukewarm show. Fairy Tail is a show that can either be pretty hot or pretty cold for a lot of viewers. Story: It's a very weird concept of an adventure story. It's basically just the protagonist doing jobs/quests for the most part. It didn't feel like there was a ultimate goal. While there are some goals for the protagonists, it was never the main point of the story. It's like if you watched One Piece, but without Luffy having the goal of being the Pirate King. It is in a way an adventure anime in its purest form.
Art: It feels very basic and bland. Character designs aren't that unique. Even the art from the manga isn't really that special. The animation quality was alright. After a 1 year anime hiatus, they changed both the art style and the animation. While the quality itself doesn't really drop, I just hate when they abruptly change how the show looks. And that goes for all shows since I had a similar problem with the 4th season of Haikyuu. If you also don't like art style changes then I wouldn't recommend the show.
Sound: Didn't really notice the sound design so I can't really say if it's good or bad.
Character: I feel like the characters are what makes the show good or decent. There are a lot of interesting, quirky, and complex characters. The best part of the show is how the characters interact with each other. The lack of a compelling story with an ultimate goal is supplemented by the characters and their individual struggles and complex relations.
Enjoyment: Again the characters are what makes the show enjoyable. The fights have a very predictable outcome, since Fairy Tail is infamous when it comes to the "power of friendship" trope. While the character designs aren't really special, the characters still do look good and there's a lot of fan service in the show.
Overall I'd say it's a good brain-dead anime to watch. It's not really a show that takes itself seriously, so just go with the flow and enjoy it. It's also a good gateway anime since it does encapsulate the shounen formula.
