What I didn’t like about the show is the characters. Aoki, Yoshifumi is one dimensional, in his romantic pursuit of Kiriyama, Yui. That is the only aspects of his character explored. Yui is fleshed out and rounded but given her secret it’s vexing to see her associate with Aoki in any capacity. Nagase, Iori is an okay character but her angst was childish and tiresome to watch after the first arc. But I can have that opinion as a grown man who long ago came to terms with his angst. Yaegashi, Taichi has the ‘dive in head first to save others’ personality that ensures eventsreach a head. And Inaba, Himeko is overtly the best character in the show because her reactions and motivations were the most realistic and relatable; given the extraordinary scenario.
It was relatable and thought provoking because it was It forced the characters to face moral decisions they wouldn’t ordinarily face. I liked how the series played with the idea of aberrant behaviour being genuine or forced. It preys on fears that each and every human being has as it raises the questions of ‘what would you do if…’and ‘how would you react if…’ while understanding morality is a subjective thing. It was neither boring nor predictable because the story is fast paced dishing out information as needed to the viewer and characters, because when the viewer has more information than the characters the story becomes predictable. And predictable equals boring. I liked that the series runs the gambit of emotions; it’s funny, sad and dramatic.
