Review of Fairy Tail the Movie: The Phoenix Priestess

Honestly, I don't like fan service packaged in adult humor, such as Lucy's nudity scene at the beginning of this movie. Even though those kinds of jokes are a signature of Fairy Tail, I still don't enjoy them. Fortunately, such cliché adult humor moments are not too frequent in this film. This movie can be enjoyed by anyone, even those who haven’t followed the anime series. The battle scenes are truly stunning, especially since they involve other Fairy Tail members, even though their roles in the story are minor. Although the storyline is cliché—focusing on friendship, fighting a giant creature, and ending on a happy note—this isexactly the kind of story I enjoy. As a fan of Hiro Mashima’s works since Rave Master, I think this movie successfully explores his fantasy world and integrates well with Fairy Tail's main storyline.
