Review of Arakawa Under the Bridge
That's the first review I write. I felt this anime was underrated. As I consider it as one of the best I had the chance to watch, it's kind of sad for me to read so many bad reviews. Story As in many other animes, the first episodes are here to introduce the main characters and their relationships. The story doesn't go fast as the main idea in my opinion is to follow the subtle transformation of Kou, the rich kid living under a bridge. As he tries, more or less, to become part of these parallel society, we can see all the mistakes given by thedeformation of our society: What is really meaningful ? What defines success ? How do we act to be "normal" ? And is it really "normal" ?
All those questions are asked in a love comedy register, with absurdist humour, making each episode an explosion of laugh and emotions.
Art and sound
I really loved the visual of these anime. Draws and animations are simple but beautiful. They are all part of the ambiance. With the music, they have a unique personality. I don't like animes where you could take a scene, put it in any other, and it would fit in. That's not the case of Arakawa under the bridge. The colours, the character design, the music, the visual spirit, all work with the story and the emotions you feel when watching it.
Characters
Maybe the better point of these anime. The characters are colourful, unique and appealing. They are like a big family of so various peoples. Joyful and funny. Each of them has its own reason to live here, and they made me wonder : If I wanted to go out of these societies, what would be my reasons ? Where would I be useful ?
Enjoyment
This anime is all about emotions. I laughed so hard ! Always wanting to know what they will invent next. Watching one episode can make my day better. If you like absurdist humour, this one is for you.
Tl;Dr
A unique piece of work with appealing characters, absurdist humour and underlying questions about society and our life priorities. One of the best I've watched.
