NO SPOILERS Just some brief points to tell people who haven't seen Gintama why it is so amazing: 1. It includes so much Japanese anime culture. It has parodies and references to ALL of the most famous and influential anime: Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Doraemon, Detective conan… and that’s only a little fraction. Also, since the fourth wall doesn't exist in Gintama, you get to know about the anime/manga industry in Japan. The characters are aware that they are in an anime and even complain to you about airing times and how the business is going (eg. how movies & merch are selling), they even hada fight about character ranking at one point. It tells you about anime/manga-creating in Japan, how Jump magazines work etc….

2. It does every aspect perfectly. As a comedy, Gintama is hilarious; if you have watched the anime it refers to it's 1000000x funnier, but it’s not just a stupid, messing-around show. The character development, story depth, meaning and themes it presents to you can be compared with godly works like Fullmetal and HxH. So, when it's funny, it makes you laugh your head off. When it's action, the fight scenes get you fired up as hell. When it's serious, it makes you rethink your values in life. When it’s sad, it makes you bawl.

3. It is not cliché. Most shounen has a stereotypical system: hot-tempered, talented protagonist, cool-headed second protagonist... but Gintama jumps out of that system (it even makes fun of that system: eg. "so you are that rival character?"; "that's my setting!" etc.), the main characters and even the side characters aren't cliché.

Anyways WATCH GINTAMA, otherwise you will regret life
