High School DxD is unapologetically over-the-top, but it knows exactly what it wants to be—and absolutely nails it. At face value, yes, it’s ecchi-heavy and packed with fan service, but underneath the bouncing physics and demon waifus is a surprisingly fun supernatural action story with solid pacing and a likable (if very pervy) protagonist. Issei's journey from a powerless human to a devil with unique powers is filled with absurd humor, intense battles, and a growing cast of memorable characters—each with their own quirks and motivations. The animation holds up decently for a 2012 release, especially during fight scenes where the energy and stakes ramp up fast. The world-building might not be super deep at this stage, but it gives just enough lore to keep you intrigued about the devil factions, Sacred Gears, and what’s to come in future seasons.

What really makes this season shine is how it balances chaos with charm. It’s not a show you watch for realism or depth—it’s pure, chaotic fun, and it never pretends otherwise. If you’re okay with the fanservice, there's a genuinely entertaining supernatural shonen story here that only gets more ambitious in later seasons.

Overall Rating: 9 – Great
