Review of Texhnolyze
The future. What happens if anybody knows it? What will society turn into when their lives have a timer of set actions. And what if, that one who knows the next day as a memory, tells there's a way to change it? “Texhnolyze” explores the concept of a “lesser” society looking at the sky and seeing the very beauty they can't have. Nobody has a purpose, nobody lives without a problem happening in their lives, and our protagonist suffers from the brunt of existing in the world. Bleak; not with an extreme, or bloody presentation, just with what they tell us about this way ofliving. Imagine they chop your arm and leg just because you defended yourself against the wrong person. This way I can talk about our quiet protagonist. A man of few words, of few interactions. “What drives him to keep living?”.
Evolution, regression, infinity, conscience, touched upon with a simple guy. I'd say the story explores a miracle. Can a person grow, for the better, against this world, and all odds stacked against him?
I loved how Tarkovskyan the series was. A tone akin to the world not even wanting to communicate. There isn't a point, at least in the beginning. Nobody talks about the world, since nobody knows why the things happening, happen, only those up to who represent a god, and the past ideas of it being missing from our world. What is the meaning of such suffering, and in the very end, what was it all for? I was left puzzled about how to feel other than sad, or empty. A satisfying ending that leaves no room for another installment. This is a story that ends, and it ends forever.
I know there's more meaning in repeated watches. There are many instances where I was lost, or where I couldn't idealize what was going on, but that's my fault since names are thrown out there without regard for audience's memory. The creators respect the watchers, and I can't fault them for that. Although, the last two episodes wrap every emotional beat for you to marvel at the beauty they hold, even if the story feels slow, or too convoluted.
I'll watch everything from these creators, since my god. Here are directors of Steins;Gate, Paranoia Agent, Ergo Proxy, Berserk. No wonder, this is a series that deserves time and care to look at. I'll have to rewatch it, even if for me, the story really drags around the midpoint. The Yakuza parts feel like an afterthought when you look at the ending, that may be the point, but it wasn't that enjoyable.
