Review of Hyouka
" I hope you choose this moment and the light that lies before you. We don't know where we might go, so after the sigh, just take another breath. " - Hyouka The tittle itself, Hyouka is described as i-ce cream which is sweet and loved by most and might be bitter and disliked for some. Truth works the same way. Not every truth can lead to a happy ending, and yet people want to know the truth behind everything, anticipated the worst scenario and still crave for it. This unusual phenomenon is known as curiosity. Hyouka has a unique way of portraying it, through the mainfemale character, making it one of her lovable personalities. The story centers around middle school teenagers solving cases revolving around the school, cases that are not that interesting, in fact. I feel the lack of character development for Satoshi and Miyaka, even though they are just side characters and thinking they have the potential to love up to. The character development for Oreki and Chitanda, on the other hand is quite good, especially for Oreki who would go that far and ignore his principle of energy conservation just for her cute smile and one simple thanks.
Each of the mysteries has its own charm. Rather than focusing on detective-solving-cases genre, this anime also includes the romantic yet awkward relationship between its two main characters, matching up a lazy but smart Oreki and a curious yet powerful ( rich ) Chitanda with awkward yet heart-grabbing moments along with their friends. The music used is suitable with each scenario, the suspense, boredom, kawai moments and more. And the art is probably most reviews are giving the scores for, as the art is very detailed with each petals falling from sakura tree can be seen clearly and a change of emotion in split seconds can be captured as well.
Overall, if you're looking for a more light-hearted detective style ( cuteness may overloads ) of anime for a change over those intense and gloomy anime, you should stop here and give it a try. Who knows? Maybe you'll be thrilled by it.
