So, for the longest time i tried to get away from this anime. Then a friend of mine begged me to watch it, so i did, a few years back. Dropped it the first time because it bored me. After a while, i tried to rewatch it and same, i dropped it in the first episodes. Now, as my mind is more clear and there is less clutter in my life, i decided to give it a third go, and my last attempt. And now, surprisingly, i finally watched it entirely and...its hard to say.The creators have put so much themes and details in this work that for me, at times, was hard to follow.

Story: The story overall is very original, although there are quite a few little plot holes or things that are explained and never talked about in the course of the story. That kind of irritated me. Another thing that i disliked was the over-philosophizing of certain parts of the episodes, and the abundance of themes and other religious/mythical things that seem to be thrown about there. But the ending was pretty interesting to see, as i never saw an ending like that in any anime.

Art: The artistic directions are very clear in this work. Animations are fluid, and the character design was unique for each character. The choice of colors, of darks and sometimes of straight up weird artisty mashups were also appreciated.

Sound: It gets repetitive after a while, though the OST is pretty good in itself. I liked the opening, and disliked the ending, since i felt it didnt fit very well with the tones of the story and all. Sounds were ok. Nothing truly remarkable, aside from a few tracks which were very spiritually oriented.

Characters: So, the characters of this particular anime are hard to truly describe. I felt that the protagonist was the most realist among them, well, a part from a few exceptions. The characters in this anime really try to dig deep into themselves, and although you see this in modern anime as well, this went a step further. It really tried to get to the bottom of each and everyone of the characters, psychologycally. They were perfect in their imperfections, and there was an honesty of character that i dont think i've never seen before. This is really great character writing, and the only thing that really stood out for me in the end.

Enjoyment and overall: Well i certainly enjoyed. I won't praise it as a masterpiece because for me personally isn't, but it was still a very unique work and i enjoyed every moment of it.

So in the end, a classic to be viewed, but to each his own. I hate people that hail the classics as ''untouchable'', because everything is subjective to the viewer, and he/she will interpret what the author means in different means and ways, different from everyone else. So yeah, sorry for this little off-topic talk, but it needed to be said.

I recommend it, and overall, it's an 8/10.
