Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
I guess you need to read the manga and watch the movie and whatnot. This standalone TV series wasn't great and I did not like the last episode at all, what with all the repetition. Music: Music wasn't bad. Theme song was one I have heard before, even before watching this anime. Honestly though, the worst part was the sound effects. Those damn bug sounds played in every god damn episode were SO fucking annoying. Jesus I hate those cicada's or whatever bugs they were. Characters: The characters were okay. Kinda felt connected to them at times, but otherwise it was always just one problem after another. It kinda ties up in the end, but like, seriously, every character story line has to be about loss, depression, and parental failure? :/ seriously?
Story:
The story seemed...weird. At first it was a bit interested, but there were so many incomplete aspects of the story that I just didn't understand. Then there were entire episodes where it tried to play the main character as being dumb or like... I don't know. The ending was honestly not great. The last three episodes meant nothing to me. The way it all ended was just garbage in my opinion. How did they not recognize an angel in the boy? Like, wtf?
Final thoughts:
Honestly, I did not like this anime a lot. I know its a classic and I'm glad I watched it, but damn I'm glad anime's have come a long way. The faces were weird, the story was all over the place and incomplete in certain areas, the last 4 episodes seemed like they were suddenly trying to explain everything in a hurry, and god there were some scenes that would repeat so many times I almost just skipped ahead on Netflix just so I wouldn't have it repeating a phrase from the character over and over. It was all a cool concept, and I hope there can be a continuation that is better. Would not recommend.
