Review of A Place Further Than The Universe
Once in a while there's an original Anime without source material, a self contained story of one season, that tells a story about real shit, whether that be grief and loss, friendship or having the courage to actually pursue your passions. Once in a blue moon, the writer's and directors pull it off birllianty resulting in a very good show. Seasonal shows come and go, but this one stuck with me, even 2 years later. The cute girls doing cute things premise is used well, but it's not just cute things. I remember and occasionally listen to the awesome soundtrack that includes some insert songs that bring meto the verge of crying, invoking some part of nostalgic feelings as well as the image of the scenes playing out with the song.
The music is just used so dammn well.
Briefly, the characters are a lotta fun and the VAs do a great job of portraying a group of friends through ligh hearted, but also serious moments.
The story itself builds up very well narratively, tension wise and delivers on it's promise or in other words, the story goes somewhere, literally too. It delivers some great emotional punches that hit if you ended up liking and feeling empathy towards the characters.
All in all it's a near perfect self contained story with only minor flaws, that excels in sound, character, art and story.
If you're looking for a story about youth/coming of age and the feeling of adventure, this show doesn't disappoint.
