Review of ReLIFE
If you are looking for a slice of life anime with great humor and plot, don't bother looking any further, THIS IS IT! ReLife's main plot revolves around a failed 27 years old adult (Arata Kaizaki) who gets a chance to get his 17 years old appearance back and gets back to high school on his senior year. Now, I've put years between today and my high school days, but I think the majority of us who are now an integral part of society with a 9 to 5 job, have found ourselves longing for those high school days! This is exactly what Arata gets todo.
PROS:
Now have you ever thought about what getting back into your senior year entails? Well the writers of ReLife have, and boy are they seriously stop on! This anime is filled with humor and pretty much anybody can sympathize with the main character. you have typical classroom/anime characters as well as characters who fall off the stereotypical wagon. These two types however still carry much depth and their backstories are well spread out throughout the anime. Many anime will take a whole episode or half of it to give you a sob story about a character. ReLife doesn't do this, ReLife gives you enough information in a short amount of time in order for you to get the picture and moves on to better things.
This anime got me hooked from the second episode, and I have already re-watched it twice. that's how fun it is! It's light, yet has some drama. It's fun but does portray some serious topics. And the plot is just extremely well thought out and complex enough to make the anime last three or four seasons without leaving any unanswered questions by the end of the last season. Frankly ReLife has brought me joy and laughter all the way and I can't think of any other anime of the genre that has entertained me as much.
CONS:
Although there isn't much to complain about in ReLife, I still found that sometimes the story was being dragged on and some people did things way too out of character for them. I did argue with myself that it must be due to hormones and that teenagers do stupid things so who cares. Also, the anime ends with only 13 episodes so that really blows!
MISC:
The anime is very well drawn and I did enjoy the opening and ending as well as the little skits at the end of each episode.
All in all, ReLife is amazing and you should definitely watch it whether or not you are a fan of the genre. In fact, if you like comedy, slice of life genre, drama or romance, don't hesitate to watch this. And if you don't but want to introduce a girlfriend to the world of anime, definitely go with this one!
