Review of Space Dandy
This is a spoiler-free review of Space Dandy: Story (9/10): Space Dandy is an episodic show following the different tales of Space Dandy and his crew. If you heavily despise episodic shows then this might not be for you, but it is one of the best episodic shows in anime. Every episode explores a different part of Dandy's universe. Some episodes have a comedic tone, some contain emotional stuff and some narrate the adventures of the crew. I think that Space Dandy is the best direction that Shinichiro Watanbe has done for an episodic series. Art (10/10): The animation is done by studio bones and it keepsthe company's reputation. Space Dandy is one of the most colorful and visually pleasing shows to watch. A lot of episodes have different art styles depending on the tone of the episode and it is eye candy.
Sound (10/10): Shinichiro Watanabe is famous for his shows' soundtracks and Space Dandy is no different. The soundtrack for Space Dandy isn't as good as Cowboy Bebop but it is definitely perfect for the type of show Space Dandy is.
Character (8/10): Space Dandy and his crew are kind of similar to the Bebop crew. The main thing that lets this series shine is the side characters that come in every episode. Some characters only appear for half an episode but you gain so much affection for them it's hard to imagine them never comeing back.
Overall (9/10): If you don't like the normal Japanese-style comedy where the main punchline is so cliche you can see it coming from a mile away then this show should be a must-watch. It's a very chill show with a nice sense of humor that some people might call dry but honestly, I'd prefer normal comedic gossip than the same comedy troupes in the other shows. If you don't like the first few episodes then you can drop it but you should definitely give it a try.
