Review of Land of the Lustrous

Holy divine heaven of 1,000 worlds. What the fuck did I just get myself into. A new discovery? A new form of art? Art itself? Culture itself? Religion itself? Itself itself? Agh!! What the fuck!!!! is this!!!! holy shitttttt I cannot BELIEVE!! -Alright, sorry for losing my composure. At first glance, Houseki no Kuni seemed like any other Computer Graphics ( CG ) anime. Causing me to nearly drop the show. However, the string of future pulled me back and gave me the courage I needed to continue the show. So I did. And as I progressed through the show, moderately becoming disturbed by theCG at times. My entirety was slowly absorbed by the art of the anime. Up until the point where my brain just malfunctions and presumed that this anime wasn't CG'ed. I became speechless. Not uttering a single word. Clicking "watch next episode" every time I finished an episode as the sound of car drifts by my house and the noise of my fan continues to play.

I watched. Watched and watched. Until it was over. The first word that came out of my mouth after spending 6 hours sitting down, staring at my laptop's screen and chucking at least one water bottle every two episodes was : "It's over?".

Houseki no Kuni is an anime that offers a lot of unique aspects. It allowed itself to become the first CG only anime that I can accept and give it the best scores, and possibly even became better than the majority of the anime that I've given maxed out stats. Not just that, the story's actually really good. Allow me to explain the 6 categories below in a format.

Story : 10/10

Summary of the story - Non-binary, living gemstones fight against spirits as a daily routine.

Ok. As simple as it may sound. The story actually has more to offer. As a son of a family that runs a jewelry business and a person who enjoys Chemistry to a certain degree. This anime taught me some simple facts that I didn't know about gemstones. Its hardness, Its formula, and so forth. It was intriguing, and at some point I had to pause the anime just to search on the internet ( whoopsie. What I said on paragraph 3 was exaggerated. Sorry lulw ).

Can't spoil anymore than this. So I'll just leave it at that. The rest y'all can find it yourself by watching the show. Overall, the story is very good but... It ended as a cliffhanger...So...

By the name of Agent_Redacted. I demand for Season 2. And there will be no defiance.

Art : 11/10

The thing that stands out the most about this anime is its art. Yes indeed. Its art. My relationship with CG was always bad ever since the first time I saw it on action in a television series. Its dogshit. It looks like shit. It is shit. That fact drilled into my head and stored inside my brain so hard that I could find out what's CG and what's not in a blink of an eye.

However, in spite of the fact that I've always hated CG. This anime appeared into my life like a holy guide giving guidance, saying "Ohh, young man. You have tried countless but none of them has ever shined so bright. So... Why not try this one?".

I was not disappointed.

In fact. I was astonished. This anime probably has the best CG out of all CG anime I've seen ( like God Eater & Berserk ). It's so smooth, it looks so real. It looks like so... Nearly perfect. Oh anime industry, how far you have grown. I am so proud I don't even know what to say anymore. So I'll just leave it at that.

"Masterpiece"

Sound : 10/10

T-the sounds are great! It doesn't overuse the background musics too much and just leaves it as the natural sound of leaves rustling and wind blowing most of the time. And I kinda like that. Other than that, the OP's good. The ED's great. Overall perfect.

Character : 10/10

Let me start with the character design first :

Black Suit? Check.
Short Pants? Check.
Sword Hanging down from waist at the back, attached by two ropes? Check.
Sexiness? Check.
Shininess? Check.
Girl? What.
Yuri? 5%.

Well. That's that. Moving on.

The character developments within this anime is insane on par to the story. The best one is probably my favorite gemstone and the MC of the show, Phosphophyllite.

[SPOILER] She used to be weak and really terrible at things. But as she try her hardest, she became edgy and probably one of the strongest gemstone fighters within the series. Or even the strongest. [SPOILER END].

Though Season 2 is required because it feels lacking at certain areas. That's about it.

Anyways. This anime is recommended to everybody. Like CG or not. That is irrelevant. Just fucking watch it. It's awesome!
