A Record Of Mortal's Journey To Immortality 4th Season · review
I think season 4 improved in animation and CGI over season 1 and 2. The CGI was a bit awkward in the first two seasons. And in some ways I think story is also told better. I don't think I remember any logical inconsistency as I had with season2. The cities look beautiful. The world building is good with different regions having different culture. I appreciated the attention to details. While the series often dropped the ball on young character designs, particularly the women, a lot of times I just forgot who is who as they often looked similar, almost like dolls. But the older, especiallythe aged characters are designed very well.
I like the fox character in this season. Normally Han Li is a loner but with the fox he has someone to talk to. There are some episodes where he refrains from using powers, and only using talisman. That was fun.
I like that in this season he goes back to his roots, that is locations from season one. The nostalgia is nice. When he goes back to the village where he grew up when he was a mortal, he found things have changed so much. While things at the immortal world seem to stay very similar, mortal world changes much faster. His village is no longer dirt roads and is now a town with paved roads.
There is a character who has nascent soul breakthrough and that episode was glorious. 10/10.
I am giving the show a 8/10 but I really missed the show after the season ended. I felt I went through a withdrawal and other stuff didn't look interesting. Basically this will hook you in. The reason I wont give is a 10/10 is I have some issues with the animation at times, and the story is singularly focused on him growing stronger. That is not a fun way to live. In that way I felt maybe a mortal lead a more fulfilling life than Han Li. I really wish Han Li was made a more interesting character.
